Caledonia Mining Plc announced that it has awarded French firm Voltalia the contract to erect a solar installation at its Blanket Mine in Zimbabwe. Once completed it will provide approximately 27% of the mine’s total electricity demand.

Last month Caledonia was able to raise $13 million for the construction of this solar power facility. Voltalia will carry out the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) work under the contract.

The project will be implemented in multiple phases and is expected to begin supplying power to the Blanket Gold Mine in Q4 2021. The solar panels will be installed over a 40-hectare site.
