Italian renewable energy company Enel Green Power (EGP) said it has started generating electricity from its 140-MW Nxuba wind farm located in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

The wind project is one of five that EGP’s local unit secured in the Round 4 of the South African government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP). The remaining four are Garob, Oyster Bay, Karusa and Soetwater, each of 140 MW of capacity.

EGP invested over EUR 200 million (USD 235.1m) in Nxuba. With all turbines spinning, the wind farm will generate an estimated 460 GWh per year.
